THAT’S AMORE! A MAGICAL MICRO WEDDING

The Story of Marta and Daniel

I first met Marta at a wedding fair at the stunning Norwood Park, back in 2019. Marta was bursting with bridal excitement and brimming from ear to ear at the prospect of planning all the little details of her special day. We chatted at length about an Italian wedding cake and dessert table and she couldn’t wait to book in a consultation and tasting with me, so she could bring Daniel along to try my wares.

In January 2020, Marta brought Daniel for their consultation and I could see instantly the chemistry between this couple. It was such a delight to hear about their wedding plans at Norwood Park and all the details from flowers to colour schemes and just how much they loved cake and how excited they were to find someone who offered something so completely different. Marta and Daniel opted for letter Italian wedding cakes in their initials D & M along with a dessert wall full of mini Italian pastries for their guests to help themselves to, along with mini Italian biscuits as favours for their 80 guests. They went away feeling super excited to have booked my services and ticked off another item on their wedding planning list.

A Love that conquered despite a pandemic!

Fast forward to March 2020, and suddenly the world is tipped upside down as a global pandemic strikes! The country shuts down and weddings grind to a halt. Many couples are devastated at the prospect of having to either postpone or cancel their weddings, I spoke to many tearful brides who make a choice to postpone, to the following year and beyond, but Marta and Daniel remained steadfast in their plans, with their fingers firmly crossed that August would be ok.

Fast, Fast Forward to July 2020, Restrictions ease and weddings are once again allowed to proceed but not as we know them. A limit of 30 guests, social distancing and sanitising, a reduced length ceremony, a wedding breakfast only and no evening reception, no buffet style food, table service only…….the thought seemed bleak to many but still Marta and Daniel were determined that love would conquer. So strong was their desire to get married that despite the heartache of letting go of their original wedding plans, they held on to their original wedding date and ploughed forward with a new vision for their day, against the odds.

Small in numbers but not small in scale!

AND what a vision that was……what by many were seen as restrictions, to M & D was an opportunity to carve meaningful moments into their wedding ceremony. Marta walked alone down a red carpet in the beautiful gardens of Norwood, to her love whose back was turned. They read their own personal vows to each other and after such tear-jerking words turned and faced one another for the first time, then together they walked down the aisle through their guests for their formal outdoor ceremony.

Marta, wore her dream dress by Justin Alexander from Eternally Yours Bridal in Newark and carried a stunning bouquet of dusky pink and mauve roses with hints of lavender by Jenny at The Flower Barn. Witnessed by 25 of their nearest and dearest family and friends Marta and Daniel exchanged vows under the stunning outdoor pagoda at Norwood Park.

What followed was relaxed outdoor drinks and canapes , before sitting down to a lovely formal dinner in the decadent gallery room, with modern and understated styling by the talented Charlotte from Fine and Dandy Events, M & D and their guests sat down to a long elegant dining table, with gold candles sticks and accents of dried florals. When I arrived to deliver their cake and pastries, the speeches were in full flow and I had the honour of witnessing just how relaxed, intimate and special their wedding celebrations were, curiosity got the better of the children in the wedding party who came to take a look as I set up their cake initials. It felt so great to work on a wedding after so long and you could feel it in the air that it meant so much to everyone because of what the couple had endured to get there.  M & D  finished the evening with their cake cutting, some decadent and delicious Italian pastries and their first dance, lit up by LOVE.

So you see Micro-weddings can be magical and whilst it might not be what you had originally planned, the current restrictions can mean a more intimate and meaningful day, where you get to spend quality time with those closest to you, and of course there is more time enjoying and soaking up your special day together as husband and wife. I didn’t get to see Marta on the day of their wedding but she later admitted to me that she even managed to sneak in 40 winks when she went to her room to touch up her make-up!! I asked both Daniel and Marta if they had any regrets…..it was a resounding NO, they couldn’t have wished for a better and more special wedding day!

If you are planning to continue with your wedding plans despite the situation, and you would like a cake to celebrate your intimate wedding. Please get in touch, I am always happy to help where love prevails!!

Arrivederci for now!!
