TRADITIONAL ITALIAN WEDDING CAKES IN THE UK

The traditional Pan di Spagna is Italyโ€™s most famed sponge cake, but this cake is a far cry from the British sponge cakes used in Wedding cakes in the UK. It is as light as a feather and incredibly moist. Drizzled with your choice of liqueur syrup and filled with the creamiest โ€˜Crema Diplomaticaโ€™ this cake literally melts in the mouth. There are also numerous flavour combinations to choose from the classic Rum and vanilla, zesty Limoncello, Gianduia and Frangelico to White chocolate, coconut and Almond, Coffee and Amarettoโ€ฆ.and many more!

This cake is so light and more dessert-like so it cannot be stacked like a traditional wedding cake, instead we can get creative with cascading tiers in your choice of shapes, super-sized single tiers or even your initials carved in cake! Traditionally these cakes are coated with a light chantilly cream, perfect if you are not a fan of overly sweet icing or buttercream. It can be decorated with anything from fresh fruits, meringue kisses, mini pastries, chocolate, nuts and even fresh flowers. Utterly delicious, unique and memorable!!

PAN DI SPAGNA FAQs

  • The price for each cake depends on a number of factors including size and shape, decoration, distance of venue and whether or not the cake requires construction at the venue itself. As a guide you can expect to pay between ยฃ6-8 per portion.

  • Cake sizes are based on dessert-portions of 2" x 1.5โ€x 3โ€. Due to their very light, delicate nature, they can not be sliced into finger portions.

  • The Pan di Spagna cuts well but its a little more delicate than a traditional sponge cake as it is more dessert-like. I recommend that your caterer/chef cuts the cake, but please note this is a plated dessert and requires crockery and cutlery to serve it. This is something that your venue or your caterer will need to supply. I do not offer crockery or cutlery hire.

  • The Pan di Spagna is a dessert containing fresh creams and therefore should not be left on display for more than 2 hours after set up. I can deliver and set up your cake at a time that suits you and the order of the day, this should be no more than two hours prior to serving.

  • I am based in Nottingham and generally cover the Midlands. Weddings further afield are sometimes but not always possible. Please contact Lorena to discuss.
